Built to Be Disinfected Daily

Every clinical surface is disinfected daily with aggressive chemicals, and most commercial finishes do not survive that.

The space, and which services the practice will offer now and later. Those two decide almost everything about the buildout.

Commercial finishes are substituted to save money

A specified clinical flooring or wall finish is substituted for a commercial equivalent that looks similar and costs less. It then degrades under daily disinfection, absorbs odour, and has to be replaced in a working practice — which costs several times the original saving plus the disruption.

What the finishes have to do

  • Survive daily disinfection with aggressive chemicals.
  • Be non-absorbent, so odour does not persist.
  • Cove at wall junctions, so cleaning reaches the corner.
  • Be non-slip when wet, which is a genuine safety issue.
  • Withstand claws, cages and equipment.

How we handle it

  1. 01Install the specified clinical finishes without substitution.
  2. 02Cove flooring at every wall junction in clinical areas.
  3. 03Seal penetrations so cleaning does not enter the construction.
  4. 04Choose non-slip surfaces where floors get wet.
  5. 05Detail junctions so there is nowhere for dirt to sit.

Cove the flooring at every wall junction in clinical areas. A square junction is a line of dirt that cannot be cleaned properly however hard anybody works, and it is the detail most often value engineered out.

Said plainly

Where we stop

We will not substitute a commercial finish for a specified clinical one. It looks similar, it fails under daily disinfection, and replacing it in a working practice costs several times the saving.
